The scenery was spectacular & the accommodation was welcome & inviting after a long days hiking. We had great weather & hence the views were uninhibited.
Our guides showed amazing passion for the environment as well as great stamina in having hot scones, muffins, fresh baked bread & steaming hot meals awaiting our arrival at our nightly venue. The walk was exhilarating & spectacular as well as hard work. I would recommend to anyone.

A Tale from... What delusion had caused us to ignore our increasing years?
Not disclosing our fears, higher and higher we climbed, at times lynching from chains and ignoring the pain of the wavering boulder called a backpack that rearranged our extremities and tested our limits.
Dogged determination drove us on to the top, Marion’s Lookout. Now there was nothing to stand in our way of completing the Overland Track. Bring on the chilly winds, the driving rain, the mud fiestas, the squelching tracks, the slimy tripping tree roots, the boulder hopping rivers -we would go on!
Super guides, Ciara & Lachy, were not only fit they could whip up a grand 3 course meal, scrumptious scrolls, cashew porridge, play guitar, tell long, long jokes and perform their duties with class. Multi talented they tackled all the group threw at them, such as adjusting backpacks, pulling one old girl out of the deep mud, (I now know what it would feel like to drown in quicksand.) bandaging blisters & sprains, taking stretching classes and enduring cheeky comments after Tamar Valley wines were patriotically supplied and consumed each evening.
Our weather was made to order. Wind in our faces and horizontal sleet on the first day just to make sure we really could handle all that this track had to offer. Then, two fair weather days as we wandered across the top of our world and visited the host of tarns and blue, crystal clear lakes. On the third night, the rain pelted down to send us into a soothing sleep. All the next day, looking like cocoons of goretex, we trudged through raging water flowing downwards over the track, making its way to form the thundering, cascading waterfalls that we would visit on Day 5, having once again been serenaded to sleep by constant pitter-patter of raindrops on the roof. The rains brought to life the enchanted forests and the rich green tapestry of the fairy glades. Colourful fungi had bloomed overnight to add to the myriad of button grass plains and temperate rain forests,
Our group was complete with 3 couples from Hamilton, Vic.
Great fun but younger and faster than us, worse luck! Every one of us hit the ground (or lower) at some stage of the walk, including the guides. Just as well, we threatened to throw anyone that didn’t in Lake St. Clair at the end of our journey. We melded well and were not ready to say bye as they all reckon they are coming to cuddle the goats at some time.
Worth every cent, loved every minute, even the mud!

A Tale from... Our guides were Kym and Emma. Two more articulate, engaging, passionate and intelligent guides we could not have asked for. From sunrise to sundown and beyond, they supplied assistance medial and mental, prepared wonderful food, and made the whole experience unforgettable. We consider ourselves fortunate indeed that we were able to share it with the two of them.
Geoff
A Tale from... The World Heritage Area is beautiful, picturesque and easily my favourite place on earth. My walk buddies were 7 girlfriends, another wonderful lady and guides Ben and Bonnie. Our guides educated us about the flora, fauna and geology of the area, entertained us, produced gourmet meals and motivated us to heights we never imagined. As 8 working mums who have hectic lives just being out in the wilderness would have been enough, but the little things like a library repeated in each hut, hot showers, clean cabins and a glass of fine wine each evening topped it all off. Cradle huts you have thought of everything.
A Tale from... From the pick up at our hotel to the Beer!! we had at Lake St Clair bar. Thankyou to Chris and Emily, they were fabulous, funny, and Wow could they cook up a perfect meal to end a very amazing, spectacular day. 6 days and no rain, walked in singlets and shorts everyday, wanted to put all the wet weather gear on that we had bought just to experience it. Climbing mountains, trudging through the woods, singing our way through the enchanted forest and being wowed at that ever changing spectaular view. I don't have a favorite day cause every day was my favorite. Thankyou Cradle Mountain Huts Team and of course Beautiful Tasmania

A Tale from... Our guides (Jen and Talbot) were the best and nothing was to hard for them. They looked after us exceptionally well.
The food, wine, cabins, hot showers were all very welcome each evening. The quality wonderful.
A very well run organisation. The National Park is great, a fantastic experience.

A Tale from... As the first ‘adventure option’ we pushed harder and higher, but it was well worth the aching thighs! We climbed three mountains, including Mt Ossa on a mild, clear day where the view stretched from summit to horizon. Whether squelching through mud, stumbling over roots and boulders, or sipping hot chocolate on a flat slab of warm rock in the sunshine after an icy swim, it all added up to an awesome six days. Lachy and Mitch are knowledgeable, good-humoured, calm and great cooks! And the respect they have for the environment is an inspiration. I’ll never forget it. Thank you to all.

A Tale from... We have done quite a few long distance independent full pack hikes over the years, including the 4 day Freycinet Peninsula Circuit 3rd-6th February 2013, finishing the day before the Overland Track, and this was the first guided walk for us since we did Mt Rinjani on Lombok, Indonesia 20 years ago.
Can I then say that our hike with Cradle Mountain Huts was BRILLIANT! Worth every cent and definitely worth our while recommending it to friends(although I dont know how many could do it!). Cradle Mountain Huts is a VERY professional organisation-we could not fault any part of the experience. In particular, our guides, Kinara Johnson and Joe Shrimpton, were amazing-knowledgeable, unbelievably fit, caring and patient as they shepherded our group of 60+ year olds, intelligent and fascinating to talk to, excellent cooks, etc etc. They are two of the most inspirational young people we have ever met-you should be very proud and fortunate to have them as part of your organisation!
Again, many thanks for an awesome experience-it will stay with us for the rest of our lives and inspire us to do similar walks.

A Tale from... Cradle Mountain Huts 6 day walk - 07 Feb 20132013-02-20T00:00:00Ztag:www.cradlehuts.com.au,2013-02-20:/tales/147//
What a fabulous walk! The country is stunning, the organisation very well thought through and we had two terrific guides in Joe and Kinara.

For me the highlight was climbing Mt Ossa. We had a perfect day (I believe it's rare) and the view from the top was spectacular while the rocks up there looked other-worldly.

I did the walk 22 years ago (camping) and it was much wetter with a lot less duckboards. The result was a lot more mud and wet socks every morning. Not this time! On the other hand, the drier weather this year meant that most of the mossy forests did not have that lush green wilderness calendar look. Nonetheless, I would recommend the walk and we are now planning more such trips.

One bit of advice to future travelers Think carefully about what you are carrying. We went in February which was quite warm so the "essential" gear list was excessive. I did not wear either set of thermals (one would have done, just in case) and didn't need two warm tops – likewise, one would have done. Also I had several sets of other clothes and I could have cut back to two sets as washing and drying them is quite feasible in the huts. Finally, the supplied gear tends to be "durable" rather than light weight so the supplied pack, Goretex jacket sleeping sheet and pillow slip together weighed about 3.5 kg. Had I brought my own instead I could have halved that.

Active holidays - Star Trek.2013-02-18T00:00:00Ztag:www.cradlehuts.com.au,2013-02-18:/blog/96/active-holidays-star-trek//

Australian House and Garden.

An eerie encounter is just one of the many highlights of a hike through the wilderness of central Tasmnaia, writes Lisa Green.

House & Garden - Star Trek (PDF) PDF File – 1.6 MB

A Tale from... I was totally blown away by the beauty of Cradle Mountain-Lake St. Clair NP and the efforts that have been made to preserve the pristine environment. Our guides Ben and Rory were extremely knowledgeable about the flora and fauna and the geological and environmental history, as well as being expert guides, cooks, cleaners, wound fixers and story-tellers. Two more likeable, empathetic and intelligent young men would be hard to find. The quality of the accommodation and food was outstanding. We were blessed with beautiful walking weather after the first few hours, which helped make the whole experience one that I will never forget. Thank you so much for making this adventure possible. It is not something that I would have been able to do without Cradle Mountain Huts.

A Tale from... First of all there is obviously the indescribably beautiful nature, the sheer wilderness and the feeling of being far away from anything. I was completely overwhelmed by the beauty and variety of landscapes! Bear in mind that Switzerland is only 2/3 the size of Tassie but has 15 times the population, I.e. it is densely populated and it is difficult to find so much untouched wilderness.

But then of course the whole experience would not have been half as good without the outstanding contributions of the guides Alyssa and Nick who did an absolutely fabulous job in pampering the group in any possible way. Their knowledge of the area, flora and fauna seems unlimited and they were fabulous hosts and chefs! They went out of their way to make the walk as enjoyable as possible for us and I would like to take the opportunity to once again thank them very much for their support and hospitality!

My favourite part of the walk was the section between Waldheim and Lake St Clair!

A Tale from... It is a must do for anyone who likes bushwalking and hiking.
Walking it with Cradle Huts made it even more pleasurable. The hot showers, delicious food and wine, and comfy beds were fantastic!
I had only heard of the OT six months beforehand but I knew instantly it was something I had to do.
The beauty of the wilderness and the mountains and the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere is breath-taking. Every day is different and a new adventure.
We had a small group of six people plus our two guides brothers Will and Pat. We all got along really well and quickly became friends. Will and Pat are a great team! Such nice young men - hardworking, easy-going and thoughtful, cheeky and fun-loving. The perfect combination for our group! I would not have wanted any other guides! Their knowledge and love of the outdoors shone and it was really nice being in their company in that beautiful environment.
We had so many laughs and had so much fun! It was sad saying goodbye and I miss everyone.
Highlights:
All of us climbing Mt Ossa together on a perfect sunny day.
Seeing my first ever echidna.
The food!
The weather! Except for our last morning we were very lucky. However even walking in the rain was nice.
The good company and nice conversation.
Thank you Cradle Huts.
Thank you Will and Pat and everyone in our awesome little group for a memorable six days. We had a fantastic time, the organisation of it all was superb, the logisitcs complex but seamless, and we cannot speak highly enough of our guides Joe and Ciara. Their work ethic and knowledge of all aspects relating to the trek was outstanding. Special thanks also to bus driver Bruce who was good enough to return back to Peppers and drop off a few souvenirs after I had left them on the bus at the end of the return trip. Can you please pass my thanks to Bruce and also to Joe and Ciara (when they return, I think they said they are on the track again this week!).

We would have no hesitation in recommending CMH to our friends.

A Tale from... It was quite challenging, there are more long tiring hills than we expected. We had worried about weather, but have decided that every weather pattern brings its pros and cons..we had lots of rain, but still had lovely views, and the waterfalls were at winter levels, in December! We still walked in t shirts and waterproof pants! We swam, we laughed, we ate we drank, we slept..all in great comfort. Congrats to Cradle Mountain Huts. We were told before we went "all their guides are great"..what a recommendation and very true in our case-2 great young men with passion for the environment and wonderful people skills.
